Presentation Title: “Towards a Constructivist Stratification”
Sociologists generally accept that race and gender are socially constructed. However, if we take constructivism seriously, we must accept that most statistical methods in stratification are highly problematic. The colloquium presentation will discuss recent criticisms of the quantitative stratification literature, describe statistical methods for quantifying racial and gender inequalities that take stratification seriously, and share preliminary results.
