DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND CRIMINOLOGY AND LAW FUND — GIVE NOW

This is the general fund that provides support for the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law. This fund can cover non-research related costs, which allows the department to maintain high standards of performance beyond what state resources permit through annual awards, graduate student travel support for conference, and other initiatives.

Dr. Lonn Lanza-Kaduce Scholarship Fund — GIVE NOW

The Dr. Lonn Lanza-Kaduce Scholarship Fund support scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students with financial need who are pursuing a degree in the department of Sociology and Criminology & Law, with first preference to first generation students who have worked in public service previously or whose families are public servants (e.g., police officer, fire fighter, teacher, military, government worker).

CAROL HENDERSON FUND — GIVE NOW

The Carol Henderson Fund was established in 2022 to provide resources for the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law. Using this fund, the department has established the Carol Henderson Scholarship for Internships, a merit and need based initiative designed to provide critical financial support to undergraduate students to enable them to pursue internship opportunities.

DR. BENJAMIN L. GORMAN GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE — GIVE NOW

Benjamin L. Gorman, Ph.D., was a sociology faculty member at the University of Florida from 1968 to 1996. He endowed this fund in March 2004 with additional contributions from his brother, Joseph Gorman, from his former student, Kenneth Hodge and from other family members and former students. This fund supports the Gorman Award for Excellence in Quantitative Research.

JACK B. HUMPHRIES LEADERSHIP AWARD — GIVE NOW

This fund was established in 2003 in honor of Jack B. Humphries. Humphries was a student at the University of Florida from 1945 to 1949. Prior to attending the University of Florida, he served in World War II in the United States Army Air Force. While he was attending UF, he was a member of Florida Blue Key, the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Cavaliers and the State Student Organization. He was also active in other organizations such as the Jacksonville Club and the Red Cross. Additionally, Humphries was senior class president; he served on the editorial board of the Alligator, the Blue Key Speakers Bureau, and the Seminole Staff. In 1949, he was honored by being elected to the UF student Hall of Fame. He returned to UF as a graduate student and received his master’s degree in education in 1954. After graduation, he taught at Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL. Humphries passed away in 2003. This fund supports the Jack B. Humphries Leadership Award in Sociology.

JEROME A. CONNOR STUDENT ENRICHMENT ENDOWMENT — GIVE NOW

Jerome A. Connor worked with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other federal governmental agencies for over 34 years. He earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in sociology from UF in 1929 and 1931. When he passed away in 1995, his family established this endowment in his memory. This endowment now supports the Jerome A. Connor Dissertation Award, given annually to one sociology graduate student to assist with future out-of-pocket dissertation expenses.

LT. COREY DAHLEM AND DR. FRED “DOC” SHENKMAN EXCELLENCE IN CRIMINOLOGY & LAW FUND — GIVE NOW

This fund was created in honor of Lt. Corey Dahlem and Dr. Fred Shenkman and supports the Dahlem-Shenkman Law Enforcement Scholarship, an annual scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students studying law and law enforcement in the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law.
