The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law is proud to share that Dr. Evan Lauteria, Assistant Instructional Professor of Sociology, has been invited to give a guest lecture at Flagler College’s COM Week, hosted by the Department of Communication.
Dr. Lauteria’s talk, “Imagined COMmunities: Marketing Video Games in Japan and the US,” will take place on Tuesday, March 11, from 3:30 to 4:45 PM in St. Augustine, FL. His lecture will explore the history of video game marketing in Japan and the US, examining advertisements from the 1980s to the 2000s and insights from oral history interviews with Japanese industry retirees. He will discuss how gaming companies have shaped consumer identities and used “localization” to navigate cultural and linguistic differences—practices that continue to shape the gaming industry and communities today.
