Congratulations to Dr. Yao Li! During the past year Dr. Li has published three articles with a focus on China. An article published in the Journal of Contemporary China (opens in new tab) draws on a dataset of protests covering the period 2003-2015 (three administrations) and explores the relationship between the coercive capacity of the Chinese state and engagement in overt repressions. In another paper for Modern Asian Studies (opens in new tab), Dr. Li investigates the transformation of the Shanghai Great World Amusement Center during the early years of socialist China. Additionally, she is the co-author of a study on different forms of social conflict and contentious politics in China for the Brill Research Perspectives in Governance and Public Policy in China (opens in new tab).
