The CSC Lab is located in 3102 Turlington Hall, within the Department of Sociology and Criminology and Law. Our mission is dedicated to advancing the application of computational research methods in the fields of sociology and criminology.
Our members specialize in a diverse range of computational techniques, applying them to various substantive topics within sociology and criminology. By leveraging innovative computational approaches, we aim to deepen our understanding of social behaviors and crime dynamics, ultimately contributing to informed policy-making and improving society.

Topic-Specific Research Meetings
Family/Aging/Health with Won-tak Joo
Our aim is to study how family structures and kinship systems change with aging, and how these dynamics are associated with health outcomes. We apply various computational techniques—including network analysis, machine-learning-based regression models, sequence analysis, and advanced econometric methods—to contemporary survey datasets and historical records (e.g., decennial US Census, genealogy datasets) to enhance our understanding of family, aging, and health.
